Leopold Gottlieb (1883-1934), the youngest brother of Maurycy Gottlieb, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under J. Malczewski and T. Axentowicz from 1896-1902. Later he left for Munich to study. In 1904 he settled permanently in Paris. In 1914 he came to Poland and joined the legions. He documented in drawings the life of legionaries. He made more than a thousand portraits of soldiers and officers and created battle scenes. He first exhibited his legion work in 1917. Already after his death in 1936, a portfolio of his lithographs The Polish Legions was published. From this portfolio come the works exhibited below. All in bdb condition.
