Lot description Show orginal version

A pair of giant vases from the second half of the 19th century with the Coats of Arms of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth from the period of Saxon rule. The vases were made in Dresden by the Helena Wolfsohn manufactory, circa 1879 - 1880. Luxury product, hand-painted, with gold decorations.

Vases in the form of oval urns, on three stylized legs. Ears on the sides in the form of female heads with exposed breasts. In the center a golden cartouche in the center of which are two round shields under a closed crown. On the left is a shield with the four-field coat of arms of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (Poland and Lithuania), and on the right is a shield with the combined coat of arms of Saxony and the Wettin dynasty, the coat of arms used by Augustus II the Strong and Augustus III. Between the coats of arms the initials AR - Augustus Rex.

On the reverse of the vases, in the center instead of coats of arms painted hunting scenes. The vases are of large dimensions, height about 32cm. The legs on the vases have traces of conservation (they were damaged). Poloniums of such high workmanship and such size are rare on the collector's market.
