Karolina Polak, "Subliminal", acrylic on canvas, size 50x61 cm.
In 1999 she received a diploma from the State High School of Fine Arts in Gdynia with a profile in artistic photography. In the same year, she begins studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, from which, however, she resigned, rebelling against the pragmatic nature of painting teaching. She takes up studies related to law and then to command in the navy. She paints expressions preferring strongly contrasting colors. Her works are a message of expressively asked questions about the direction of humanity. A message that is the result of an inner search against the backdrop of the clash between a person's fate and his emotions. The painter asks to what extent we are the ones who have to fit into the world, and to what extent we can and want to change the surrounding reality. She includes in each of her works a strong need to search for truth and a simple message, being aware of the inevitable paucity of information and cognitive dissonance associated with the limitations of the human mind. The goal, however, is the path itself - to find directional indicators, certain guidelines that are different each time: logical or emotional. However, all of them lead to knowledge of the nature of the world and the individual nature of man. The aim of the message is to try to adapt and accept these regularities, in mutual interaction without losing personality. Despite the sharpness of colors and emotionality, these works are subtle and logical, and the message itself, highly humanistic. Like brainstorming to bring the best solution for us, in line with our individual gut.
