Painter and pedagogue, trained at the academy in St. Petersburg (1887-1897), where from 1894 he was a student of I. Riepin. During his studies he visited Turkey, Greece, Egypt and Palestine. After graduating from St. Petersburg in 1897-1898, he continued his studies in Paris at the Académie Julian. After returning to St. Petersburg, he actively participated in the local artistic life and was involved in art criticism. Since 1903 he lived in Warsaw. He became the first director of the SSP. In 1909-1913 he traveled to France, Germany, Sweden, Spain, among others. He spent the years of World War I in St. Petersburg, here in 1915 his first major monographic exhibition took place. He returned to Warsaw in 1918 and was a co-founder of the Sursum Corda art group. The subjects of his works were portraits, atmospheric landscapes, compositions with mystical and fantastic motifs.
