Perseus, one of the heroes of the Master's work, exceptionally endowed by the gods, but how tested, how strong and consistent he was in his path. His paths, how complicated and winding they were to finally become a constellation in the sky. The hardships this hero had to go through remind us of the long and complicated path the artist himself went through to shine in the firmament of the Masters of Contemporary Art.
The very setting of the sculpture on travertine is not accidental, as everything in Igor Mitoraj's work has a deep symbolism. As we wrote in our blog, travertine was for the Artist the material closest to the Earth-Eternal from a human perspective. So what could he set Perseus on, if not eternity?
