Bazar in the 1840s; wood. stich., color; dimensions: 160x110 mm; glued on stiff paper bdb. condition;
Through the efforts of K. Marcinkowski, the Bazar Hotel Company was established in 1838, having in its ranks the most respectable Poles from partitioned Greater Poland. Bazar was put into operation in 1841 and quickly became the center of Polish economic, political and cultural life. It was frequented by notable personalities, including the Wieniawski brothers, as well as Ignacy Paderewski, whose stay in December 1918 resulted in the Greater Poland Uprising.
The bazaar was ruined during World War II. Its owners immediately rebuilt it. The Communists took the management of the Bazar away from the owners and gave it to Orbis. After the fall of communism, the Bazar returned to its original owners.
