The art book "War Cut" is Gerhard Richter's most important work with a historical and political context. This conceptually designed book combines newspaper articles published at the beginning of the Iraq war on March 20 and 21, 2003 in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung with detailed photographs that Richter himself took from his oil painting "Abstraktes Bild Nr. 648-2" a year earlier, in 1987. The collected texts deal with the political, economic, social and cultural implications caused by the outbreak of war. They are combined without commentary into a condensed whole and allow for mutual associations.
