Description:
Edition 1. Historical novel belonging to the series History of Poland (vol. 21).
Dedicated to the poet and patriot Teofil Lenartowicz, and probably written while already in prison, the work was completed in March 1884. Published for the first and only time during the writer's lifetime in 3 volumes in Krakow in the same year.
The background of the events is the pre-death period of the life of Sigismund Augustus and the ensuing interregnum and the short-lived reign of Henry of Valois until his escape in Poland. The plot of the novel centers around the person of Anna Jagiellonka, his sister and daughter of Sigismund the Old and Bona Sforza.
