Description:
Edition 1. Historical novel belonging to the series History of Poland (vol. 26).
At the end of 1668, after the abdication of Jan Kazimierz, another election to select the future king begins. The magnates, led by Primate Mikołaj Prażmowski and Hetman Jan Sobieski, mostly support the French candidate Condeus. When it seems that his election is a foregone conclusion, unexpectedly the nobility gathered on the electoral field in Wola revolts against the dictates of the magnates and overturns the candidacy. This time the nobility demands a "Piast" king, that is, a monarch of native origin. In the end, he is unexpectedly proclaimed Michal Korybut Wisniowiecki as the son of the famous Jeremy - a hitherto insignificant prince legitimized only by a prominent father and a respected background.
