Great class, unique numismatic coin, EXTREMELY RARE.
A superb testimony to the beginnings of the Polish state.
Fascinating, the only denarius of Boleslaw I the Brave with the royal title REX, but minted probably before the coronation in 1015-1020. The royal title is explained, on the one hand, by the royal ambitions of the Brave, on the other hand, by the instability of ruler titles in the Latin world at that time. Monetary circulation in the territories of present-day Poland was dominated at that time by issues of Bohemian and German denarii, and the royal titulature on Bolesław Chrobry's coins was intended to emphasize independence from neighbors, prestige and fullness of power.
Double-sided variety of REX / REX type, according to Edmund Kopicki's catalog of known 12 pieces!
Crème de la crème of Polish medievalism.
A very nice piece, without cracks, instead with pecks characteristic of the period.
Fleshy disc, aged patina, great presentation.
For the best collections - definitely recommended.
