August the Younger, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, ruled from 1635 until his death in 1666 and was considered one of the most learned dukes at the time. He also carried out extensive reforms in Wolfenbüttel, was the first to establish a functioning church, school and judicial system. He systematically recorded all war damage in all boroughs of his principality to prepare financial plans for reconstruction. He left the principality in a very good financial condition.
