Christian II, Jean-Georges and Augustus, the son of Christian I (1586-1591), belong to the Albertine line of the family of Saxony. On the death of their father, a distant cousin of the Ernestine line, Frederick William of Saxe-Altenburg, was appointed regent from 1591 to 1602 for the three brothers Christian II (1591-1611), Auguste (1591-1615) and Jean George I (1591-1656). From 1615, Jean-George I reign alone. At his death in 1656, it was his eldest son, John George II, who succeeded him (1656-1680).
