Lobzhniki coins from the early minting period are among some of the most interesting and rare coins from the reign of Sigismund III Vasa.
According to sources, the private mint of the Krotoski family of the Bróg coat of arms worked from the beginning of that reign. To this day, however, we do not know what coins it may have minted during this period.
It is certain that in 1612 the Krotoski family leased the mint to the German minter Jan Beker (then tenant of the Poznan city mint) until 1615 .
During this period the mint only minted denarius coinage in small quantities.
For some researchers, the activities of the mint were illegal or quasi-legal. For others, the placement of the Krotoski coat of arms instead of the royal monogram in the initial phase was blatant disobedience. However, it should be remembered that in the early days it was in some way a private coinage.
The employment of a Poznan minter, in turn, resulted in an eagle visible on the reverse, identical to those found on Beker's Poznan coins.
The piece in our auction is from 1613 - the second vintage. A vintage that is known on the market in only a few pieces, and T. Opozda reached 7 pieces in 1975, including 2 in a museum in Berlin.
Remnants of silver plating and overall a fairly well-preserved piece.
Definitely a worthy coin, missing from most collections.
Silver, weight 0.38g, diameter about 12.8mm.
