Zincographic print on an arc. 9.6x7.4 cm. A country man with a sheep among the cornfields. Composition by Stanislaw Debicki (signed on the plate with a monogram tied S. D.), 1900. In the upper margin a maxim from Horace "Fascicvlum portes librorum vt rvsticvs agnvm" (Polish: "carry books like a farmer carries a sheep"). Very good condition.
W. Baworowski (1826-1894) - bibliophile, patron of sciences, poet and translator of romantic works by Byron and Hugo, founder of the Baworowski Library in Lviv.
Library of the Wiktor Hr. Baworowski Foundation (colloquially Baworowski Library) - established in the 19th century, a private library of the Baworowski family kept in the 17th-century family palace in Lviv. It was one of the largest Polish libraries, with thousands of books, manuscripts and historical documents. It now has the character of a museum.
