Biography
He was one of the most interesting individuals in the artistic environment of Lodz and the most respected representative of the GROUP (PAINTERS) REALISTS. He studied at the State Higher School of Visual Arts in Lodz. He created in the spirit of post-impressionism, there were also a few propaganda works, maintained in the convention of traditional realism. In 1955-1958, he succumbed to the charm of old Lodz and painted a number of lyrical landscapes, depicting fragments of the city. There was also a group of works showing the artist's self-ironic attitude towards himself, which manifested itself in a series of metaphorical self-portraits. The artist won a gold medal at the World FESTIVAL OF YOUTH AND STUDENTS in 1959 in Vienna. He achieved great success at the BIENNALE OF ART IN SAO PAULO in 1967. He studied at the Drawing and Painting School of S. Andrzejewski in Lodz. In 1938 he received a scholarship from the Municipal Board in Lodz, thanks to which he went to Vienna to continue his studies there. During the occupation he was in captivity in Dortmund. In 1945, he made his debut at the first district exhibition at the Art Propaganda Center and was admitted to the Association of Visual Artists. He took up studies in the studio of Leon Ormezowski at the Academy of Fine Arts, which he soon discontinued, however. In 1947 he began working as a draughtsman at the Department of Correct Anatomy at the Medical Academy in Lodz, where he was employed until the end of his life. He exhibited a lot, presenting his paintings at numerous group and individual exhibitions at home and abroad. Since 1962, he participated in national exhibitions of realist painters in Warsaw's Zachęta Gallery. In 1967 he represented Poland at the International Art Biennale in Sao Paulo. Krawczyk is considered a leading representative of the so-called Lodz school of realism. He painted programmatically anti-aesthetic, ironic compositions with a clear dominance of literary and anecdotal elements. His paintings are in the collections of the National Museum in Gdansk, Krakow, Poznan, Szczecin, Warsaw and Wroclaw, the District Museums in Bydgoszcz, Chelm, Rzeszow and Torun, the Art Museum in Lodz, the Museum of History of the City of Lodz and others, as well as in many private collections. He was educated at the Szczepan Andrzejewski School of Drawing and Painting in Lodz, then at the Vienna Academy. He spent the period of occupation in captivity in Dortmund. After the war he settled in Lodz. He took part in exhibitions of Polish art at home and abroad.
