A monumental edition of the collected dramatic works of William Shakespeare a (1564-1616) the most famous English playwright, poet, considered the most outstanding English-language writer and the greatest playwright in the history of the world. The poet's biography was compiled by J. I. Kraszewski. The publication is decorated with woodcut illustrations according to the works of Henry Courtney Selous (1803-1890), an English painter, illustrator, specializing in portraiture and history painting.
The edition is accompanied by an extensive introduction, individual pieces are preceded by a couple of pages of commentary, double-column printing, well-colored woodcut illustrations.
Translations by Leon Ulrich (1811-1885), Jozef Paszkowski (1817-1861) and Stanislaw Egbert Koźmian. Koźmian and Ulrich spent many years in England emigrating after the November Uprising; Paszkowski, who was expelled from his school job after the uprising, translated Shakespeare in Warsaw and probably never spoke to an Englishman.
