An impressive and very rare medal by the eminent medalist Jan Höhn senior (signed IH under the bust of the ruler). A 19th century galvanic copy in very good state of preservation.
The originals were minted around 1635, to commemorate the coronation of Ladislaus VI as King of Poland.
The item is almost unobtainable in commerce in the original. Sometimes called the Wladyslaw IV medal with obelisk.
Obverse: bust of Wladyslaw IV superbly depicted and elaborated, under the bust the initials of the medalist IH, in the rim the legend: VLADIS:IV.D.G.REX.POL:F.T.SUEC:M:D:LITV: ;
Reverse: obelisk with the coat of arms of Ladislaus IV on a pedestal, surmounted by the hierogram IHS. By the obelisk a knight holding palm branches and a laurel wreath in his hands, in the figure of this knight one can recognize Ladislaus IV, in the rim a legend:
