Signed, dated and described on the back: APOLONIUSZ / WĘGŁOWSKI / 1989 / COMPOSITION 91.

Apoloniusz Węgłowski studied at the Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in the studio of Stefan Gierowski from 1977 to 1982.
Currently, he is a full professor at his alma mater, leading the Painting and Drawing Studio. Winner of many prestigious awards, including the Talens Prize in 2001 (painting) and the Grand Prix of the 5th Triennial of Contemporary Drawing in Lubaczow in 2002. His works are in the collections of, among others: Studio Art Center in Warsaw, Gallery 72 in Chelm, National Museum in Warsaw, District Museum in Bydgoszcz, Silesian Museum in Katowice, Polish Sculpture Center in Oronsko, Museum of Contemporary Art in Radom.
He says of his inspirations: "The main reason and inspiration of my work is geometry - in the broad sense of the word. Plato said: "God is geometry. Man is part of nature, and I draw from it in my painting space." " [...] Events, which science cannot describe, stimulate our imagination and intuition, awaken faith and dreams - they open up artistic rationale. It is gratifying to see every bit of the emerging mystery, which cannot be named and described, which has simply become an aspiration concretized in fact.
When we say: "light initiates life processes" or: "life is related to the radiant energy of the visible spectrum area," then immediately in this enormous scale of events we find a presence and a place for painterly thought, susceptible to the influence of such concepts, because in the final analysis light is the mystery of the operation of paintings and their life.
After all, such a rather generous and carefree insertion of concepts from different fields into one melting pot stimulates the imagination, intrigues, raises doubts, but also gives direction to the pursuit and focuses attention on those simple optical facts that also lend themselves to being plunged into metaphysical longings."
