Biography
Bogna Burska - painter, photographer, author of installations, video works, found footage films and dramatic texts, director. She holds a doctoral degree and is a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in the Department of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. She also teaches a course in Social Arts at IKP at the University of Warsaw. Blood is a frequent motif in her work: blood-colored paint-drenched installations or red paintings. Burska juxtaposed the beautiful with what is commonly considered ugly, disgusting, rejected. Her work is sometimes described as a combination of critical art and aesthetic issues.
For many years she also worked with found footage video, showing the mechanisms of formation and depiction of contemporary cultural narratives.
The artist's most recent poetic images have become delicate and organic. She says of herself that she deals with the problems of constructing coherent images of reality. She is the author of Nest, The End of Violence (together with Magda Mosiewicz), Deaf Revolt, as well as other texts presented in art galleries and theater spaces. She exhibits nationally and internationally.
