Eugeniusz Minciel studied at the High School of Fine Arts in Wroclaw (1973-1978), and then studied at the local State Higher School of Fine Arts (now the Academy of Fine Arts) from 1980-1985. In 1985 he won second prize (Vatican scholarship) at the First National Exhibition of Young Painting "Way and Truth" at the Church of the Holy Cross in Wroclaw. The very participation in this exhibition - one of the most important manifestations of independent artistic life during martial law - sufficiently characterizes the attitude of the then debutant. From the beginning of his career, Minciel paid homage to Neo-Expressionism, but unlike most of his peers, such as the painters from Gruppa, he avoided narrative and explicit references, historical, political or religious. He painted large abstract compositions, sweeping and broadly guiding his brush. He maintained this style in his later years as well.
