Grzegorz Sztwiertnia was born in 1968 in Cieszyn. He studied at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow where he defended his diploma with distinction in Prof. Jerzy Nowosielski's studio. He is one of the most recognizable visual artists in Poland. He works in painting, drawing, spatial objects and installations, video and new media. Since 1992, he has been associated with the Zderzak gallery in Cracow. Together with Zbigniew Salaj, he has led since 2006, the Interdisciplinary Studio at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. He publishes theoretical texts, which are also artistic manifestos. He lives and works in Cracow. The main theme of his works is corporeality. He is the recipient of many awards, including". Jan Cybis Award granted by the Warsaw District of ZPAP in 2017, Bronze Medal "Meritorious to Culture - Gloria Artist" in 2018, awarded the "Bronze Cross of Merit" in 2017. Recently, his works could be seen in the exhibition "afterimages/ afterimages" at the Old Factory Gallery - Historical Museum in Bielsko-Biała, 2019).
