In 1975 he graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun. He received his diploma in the painting studio of Prof. Mieczyslaw Wisniewski. He currently works as an assistant professor at the Institute of Pedagogy at the University of Rzeszow. Since graduation he has been a member of ZPAP. From1993 to 96 he served as president of the Rzeszow District. He organized 20 individual exhibitions, in recent years, among others, Painting from a cycle, Toruń - 2006 and Painting to the square, Rzeszów - 2008, Medzilaborce (Slovakia) - 2009/2010; Tarnobrzeg, Łuków - 2010. He also participated in eighty collective exhibitions, among others. Biennale of Painting Bielska Jesień, Bielsko-Biała - 2007; International Triennale of Painting of the Carpathian Region Silver Quadrilateral, Przemyśl - 2009; II International Biennale of Painting Quadro Art, Łódź - 2009; XXIII Festival of Polish Contemporary Painting, Szczecin 2010 or exhibitions of Rzeszów artists in Belgium - 2009 , Romania - 2010 and Greece 2011. Winner of numerous awards and honors. Recently he won the Grand Prix at Quadro Art., Lodz 2011. He does painting, graphics (mainly publishing), drawing, sculpture, photography and film. Jerzy Tomala is one of the best known and stylistically recognizable painters in the Rzeszow community, using the language of geometric abstraction.
