oil on canvas, schagmetal, 120,00 x 120,00 cm
Born in 1962 in Warsaw, Poland. Graduate of L'ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In addition to painting, she is involved in scenography and poster design. In 1986 she won the main prize in a poster competition organized by the elite Academy of Fine Arts in Paris. The artist emphasizes that she paints with emotions. In her works we find passions, dreams, but also hesitations, sorrows and anxieties. For years, the domain of the artist's work has remained the female nude, including attempts to capture the mystery and enigma of female nature. Most often she depicts women who are strong and independent, yet extremely sensitive. A characteristic feature of the artist's works is portraying women without eyes, from which we instinctively try to read emotions. In Joanna Sarapata's work, it is the body, its positioning, pose and gesture that expresses women's moods, hidden desires and dilemmas - which, according to critics, is a subjective guide to women's nature, depicting its complexity and unpredictability. She points to the atmosphere of European cities, cinema, music and books as sources of inspiration. The works are usually created on canvas or cardboard. Thanks to her skillful use of mixed techniques - watercolor, ink, brush and pen - her paintings are light, ephemeral. She has exhibited her works since 1987, including in France, Spain, Monaco, the US and China.
