watercolor, paper, size 15 x 20 cm, signed l.d. "Józef Graczyński " and inscribed "Kozie Czuby".
A native of Czempin in Greater Poland, Józef Graczyński (1866 - 1939) spent his entire life in Poznań, receiving his education here at the painting courses of Marian Jaroczyński and Marceli Krajewski. He honed his skills in Dresden, Munich and Cracow, but in the interwar period he became associated with the artistic life of Poznan and actively participated in it. Wielkopolska landscapes, the countryside, its inhabitants and their customs were his main source of creative inspiration, though not the only one, as evidenced by the two watercolors presented here, which are radically different.
