Synthetic landscape, simplified to irregular geometric figures,
emphasized by structural, deliberately shaped layers of paint, are the
leitmotifs in the work of Jozef Halas. The painter drew inspiration
from nature while creating the series Mountains, Interiors, Oppositions, Verticals - Slants.
The artist reduces its observed elements to the maximum in order to develop
them also texturally and coloristically. The tones sounding in the paintings of Jozef
Halas are extremely sublime.
Jozef Halas arrived in Wroclaw in 1949 and joined the ranks of adepts of the
art of the State Higher School of Fine Arts. He received his diploma
in the studio of Eugeniusz Geppert. He was a teacher at his alma mater
University. Co-founder of the Group X, which also included, among others, Alfons
Mazurkiewicz. He was a member of the Wroclaw School group (from 1967 the Group
Wroclaw Group). In 2006 he was awarded the medal of Merit to Culture
Culture Gloria Artis.
