Studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Lviv Polytechnic in 1932-1939. He received his diploma as a painter at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun in 1947. From 1950 he was a lecturer, and from 1967 to 1986 a professor at the Department of Painting and Drawing at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdansk. Since 1939, he presented his works in 65 solo exhibitions; he also participated in more than 250 group exhibitions in Poland and many countries in Europe, America, Africa and Asia. He received numerous awards and prizes for his outstanding achievements in painting. He painted in a harmonious range of colors, synthetically, yet maintaining the legibility of the motif, and his favorite motifs included landscapes, still lifes, harbor views and jazz concerts.
