Maciej Woltman - painter, graphic artist, poster designer. Graduate of the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznań (1982), he earned his diploma in poster art and book illustration in the studio of Prof. W. Swierzy and in painting in the studio of Prof. J. Świtka. Fascinated by Polish artistic poster art, in 1980-90 he cooperated with book and film publishers, including the then largest Polfilm in Warsaw, the National Publishing Agency, "Glob" or "Przygoda" Publishing House in Szczecin, for which he designed film posters and book illustrations. His evocative in color, expressionist-painting posters of the 1980s such as "Gandhi", "Star-80", Princess", "Ballad of Narayama" and many others, which are part of the style of the Polish School of Poster, allowed him to successfully appear on the art scene. Deep down, as he says about himself, he is a painter, and it is painting, along with its inherent modes of depiction, that has dominated Maciej Woltman's work from the 1990s to the present. His painting consistently focused on man and his corporeality, sometimes close to formal play in which he reveals his workshop perfectionism, at other times oscillates around erotic aura, sensual nature of life and search for physical beauty, and sometimes reveals its fragility and limitations. His drawings and paintings do not faithfully reproduce reality, but often reach for inner portraits from the imagination, dreams, desires, fears, experiences, which he builds up with a decisive line and color palette. He won the Hollywood Award (1986) for his poster for the film "Ballad of Narayama" and the Art Prize of the City of Szczecin (2007). In 2013, he received an award "The most beautiful book of the year", Warsaw, for graphic design and illustrations to the poetry of Barbara Janas Dudek " Protected Work Facility" Participant of numerous individual and group exhibitions in Poland and abroad. His paintings, drawings and graphics are in private collections and public institutions.
