Maria Więc kowska - painter, born in Dęblin, in 1925. In 1954 she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, where she studied in the painting studios of Professor Rzepinski, Professor Marczynski, Professor Cybis-Rudzka and Professor Fedkowicz. In the same year she took up doctoral studies, which she completed in 1958. While still a student, in 1952 she won an award at the National Exhibition of Painting in Warsaw and an award at the Exhibition of Polish Art in Berlin. She took an active part in artistic life, presenting her exhibitions at numerous exhibitions, many of which she also organized. She has received numerous awards and prizes for her work. Her paintings are intimate, very characteristic, often depicting barely outlined figures in an undefined space, as if emerging from nothingness, chaos. As Ignacy Witz wrote about her work in Życie Warszawy: " "Maria Więckowska, intimate and hushed, occupies some special separate position in Polish painting. We do not associate her with anyone, but at the exhibitions in which she participated, her presence was always distinguished by something peculiar, a concentration of mood..." (I. Witz, Życie Warszawy, 1967).
