Marian Michalik (Zabrze 1947 - Częstochowa 1997) - was a graduate of the High School of Fine Arts in Częstochowa. After his graduation in 1966, he was engaged in applied graphics. A few years later he turned to painting, in which he excelled independently. In 1979 he was admitted to the Association of Polish Artists. Since then he has exhibited extensively at home and abroad, receiving many awards at national and international competitions, including a gold medal at the "Bielska Jesień" in 1980, an honorable mention at the XV Grand Prix d'Art Contemporain, Monte Carlo 1981, an award at the International Painting Biennale, Kosice 1985. In 1987 he became a member of the European Academy of Arts, Sciences and Letters in Paris. He worked in the convention of magical realism, precisely reproducing banal everyday objects, various tools, nature's fecundities, etc., and then creating their unusual juxtapositions. Using dark colors and lighting effects, he referred to the historical painting of Dutch still life masters.
