Studies: at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow at the Faculty of Graphics in Katowice, painting in the studio of J. Duda-Gracz and R. Nowotarski, sculpture in the studio of B. Chromy, poster in the studio of T. Jura. He does easel, pastel and watercolor painting. Smółka is one of the founders of the "Kazimierska Konfraternia Sztuki". He is a founding member of the Association of Polish Watercolorists. He has organized several nationwide plein-air painting events. His artistic travels to Italy, Egypt, Crimea, Madagascar and Zanzibar, among others, are very important in his work. He takes part in national and international exhibitions and participates in many plein-air painting events. His works are in museum and private collections in Poland, the UK, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the USA and the Vatican. He paints still lifes, landscapes - realistic with characteristic colors brought out by light and peculiar expression.
