Nikifor Krynicki, also known as Epifaniusz Drowniak (1895-1968), was a Polish primitivist painter from Krynica. He was born into a poor Ruthenian family and was self-taught in art. Despite his speech and hearing disabilities, Nikifor displayed a remarkable talent for painting that attracted attention and recognition. He mainly created watercolors, depicting architecture and landscapes, as well as scenes from everyday life, which he often depicted in a minimalist but expressive form.
His works are characterized by intense use of color and simplicity of forms, which makes them easily recognizable and appreciated both in Poland and abroad. Nikifor is considered one of the most important representatives of naive art in Poland. For most of his life he lived and worked in Krynica, where today there is a museum dedicated to his work.
