Wladyslaw PACIAK
1903 Potkanno - 1983 Radom
In 1929 he graduated from the Seminary in Sandomierz and since then worked in rural parishes of the Sandomierz diocese. He studied painting on his own. In 1945, he began higher education in Cracow.
He studied theology (1945-149) and art history (diploma 1952) at the Jagiellonian University, and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts - in the studios of Wojciech Weiss, Ignacy Pieńkowski, Zbigniew Pronaszko and Jerzy Fedkowicz, from whom he received his diploma in 1954. From 1953 he lived in Radom, where he served as a diocesan conservator. Artistic travel played an important role in his biography, his first trip to Paris in 1937, but the most important was his nearly six-month stay in Paris in 1960, from where he traveled to Italy, where he visited several cities. From this trip he returned as an artist conscious of his goals.
His first solo exhibition in Radom (1957) was a sensation in the country: a priest creates modern art! The priest's ambition was to create modern art, while at the same time addressing the great themes of sacred art and the modern world. He painted abstract and sacred paintings. To heighten expression he used deformation.
In oil paintings, paintings with religious and martyrological themes, he limited the range of colors, and in some collages he did not use paint at all. In works on paper, the color scheme is much richer - here the talent of an excellent colorist is fully revealed. He also left many pencil drawings.
