Włodzimierz Pawlak's series of paintings War Games, presented during the 2018/2019 exhibition at Muzalewska Gallery, seems to be a reference to the artistic concept guiding the painter, but also an erudite artist and professor at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, from the 1980s. At that time, unlike in the War Games series, Włodzimierz Pawlak used expressive formal means while working in one of the famous Gruppa groups of the Warsaw art community. Despite its much more economical and less expressive form, the painting Spacer 1/V has a peculiar, perverse commentary characteristic of the painting of the 1980s, consisting of juxtaposing the title of the series with images of children's games of tic-tac-toe or ships and serious chess moves with military or life plans, maneuvers or strategies. Also perverse was a conversation between Włodzimierz Pawlak and Jaromir Jedliński, conducted on the occasion of the exhibition at the Poznań gallery, the artist asked questions expecting answers.
