Biography
Maciejewski received his diploma from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in the studio of W. Taranczewski in 1969. He was a professor at his alma mater and at the European Academy of Arts in Warsaw. He felt he was an heir to the painting of the Young Poland period and creatively developed the themes of the art of that period. Around 1980 he began to paint often in the open air. He made trips to northern and southern Europe. He struggled with the problem of depicting light that was different from native light. His canvases are filled with flowery gardens, thickets of plants and bushes or orderly parks. He has also painted portraits, still lifes and paintings with religious and mythological themes. In 1998, he was the winner (second in a row) of the Witold Wojtkiewicz Prize, awarded by the Cracow branch of the ZPAP.
