Graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Wroclaw University of Technology in 1956. Since 1992, he was head of the Department of Drawing and Sculpture at this University. He was involved in painting, printmaking and photography. He was a member of the "Wroclaw Group." In 1965-1967, the series Aggressions and Invasions - dynamic compositions with intense colors and luminous surfaces - are created under the influence of the artist's fascination with gesture painting. The gesture, however, was not entirely spontaneous, but as Jurkiewicz said - "patinated, controlled and assisted" subordinated to the decision of the artist. In 1976-89 he created a series of "Final Images" with handwritten horizontal lines treated as simplified writing. In the late 1980s he created the "Labyrinths" series, and in the 1990s "Perfect Squares." In 1973, he was the recipient of the C. K. Norwid Art Criticism Award. His works were exhibited at, among others: Sao Paulo Biennale (1974), "Atelier 72" in Edinburgh, "Présences Polonaises" in Paris (1983).
