Lot description Show orginal version
Grade: UNC
Reference: Mańkowski 9

One-sided print of a fancy forgery of the 1535 Crown Thaler of Sigismund I the Old from a stamp made by Majnert.

"Crown Thaler 1535: The hand-cut stamp by Majnert is in the Czapski collection. The thaler is completely made up. A ducat of 1528 could have served as a model for the bust, and for the reverse side there is undoubtedly a two-zloty thaler of 1533. This is precisely the thaler whose authenticity is defended in Bandtkie's work..."

Obverse: bust of the king to the right, dividing the legend with a crown, in the rim:
SIGIS*PRIM*REX*POL*M*D*LI*1535;

Tin, diameter 40 mm, weight 5.43 g.
