acrylic, linen canvas, 50x40 cm, 2023
Artwork description:
The work "Fantasia" is an apotheosis of nature framed by minimalism. The painting alludes to the themes often explored by Joanna Półkośnik, such as flowers, flora and landscape. The work contains details made of gold mineral. Signed on the front and inscribed on the reverse.
Artist's description:
Joanna Półkośnik Studied at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Bialystok University of Technology, from which she graduated with honors from the Marshal of the Podlasie Province.
She seeks subjects for her paintings by observing everyday life, capturing unique, fleeting moments from it. She feels creation as an intimate depiction of her own reality, of what surrounds her at a given moment in her life, occupies and attracts her attention. She paints in two series of paintings. The more recent one is devoted to analyzing elements from the plant world. Observation of the delicacy of flowers in full bloom and at withering turns into deconstruction and becomes a pretext for creating a completely new, unreal form. Compositionally, the form of the painting moves toward abstraction. The second, older series, is devoted to the landscape of the Narew National Park area, in the vicinity of which the artist lives and observes the animals and birds that surround her, to then place them on an abstract background. This results in realistically rendered creatures on an emotional, colorful background.
