Education:

1984-1989 - Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, graphics department, studio of Prof. Halina Chrostowska and Prof. Rafał Strent, painting studio of Prof. Jerzy Tchórzewski.

2012 - Doctor of Fine Arts degree, Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. Teaches at the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Vistula Academy of Finance and Business, design graphics studio.

Jolanta Johnsson graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where she specialized in graphic design. Since then she has been working as a freelance artist, and painting and drawing are the techniques that dominate her work. She creates figurative compositions and landscapes. Through symbolic simplifications, she tries to raise existential questions. She focuses on the reality that surrounds her, that is, the existence of "modern man" living in an era of multidimensional change. The second central theme of her work is landscapes. She interprets the emotions evoked by her surroundings, especially nature. The artist's compositions sometimes depict the arrangements and divisions she sees. Often, however, imagery leads her to more abstract solutions. Her work on landscapes is dominated by the need to simplify and summarize, but at the same time she works with different textures to create a vivid image. Portraits occupy a special place. With facial expressions she tries to express the truth about a person, whatever that may mean. In printmaking, Jolanta Johnsson likes to work in traditional techniques, especially linocut. She also looks for unusual traces, creating matrices from different materials. Printmaking is a search. Although it allows for reproduction, this feature of printmaking is not the most important for her. The artist always prints small editions. A graphic print on good paper has an element of nobility, of unique beauty. She believes that a handmade graphic print will survive all new inventions in printing technology. Computer techniques, which are already more widely used by visual artists, will not dominate traditional methods.

Jolanta Johnsson has exhibited works in 30 solo exhibitions and many group exhibitions, at home and abroad. Her works are in private collections in Poland, Sweden, Germany, Dubai and the USA.
