Austrian artist known primarily as a painter of horses and genre scenes. He came from a family of Dutch emigrants. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He showed his paintings primarily at exhibitions of the Austrian Kunstverein. Thus, for example, in 1852 he showed his painting Horses at a Watering Place, in 1855 Horse Hunting with Stallions and Dead Doe with a Deer, and in 1856 Hungarian Wagon and In the Can. In his later years he went to Munich.
