Carl SALTZMANN
1847 Berlin- 1923 Potsdam
German marine artist. A pupil of Hermann Eschke in Berlin and a student at the Academy in Düsseldorf. After traveling through Holland and Italy, he settled in Berlin. In 1878-80 he traveled around the world with Prince Henry of Prussia, and later accompanied the German Emperor on his visits to St. Petersburg and Norway. In 1888 he was awarded the Grand Gold Medal in Berlin, and in 1896 was appointed professor at the Academy.
