Biography
Munich landscape painter. Initially studied at the Vienna Academy, then from 1878 to 1895 in Düsseldorf, finally settling in Munich. From 1883 he exhibited in Berlin, Düsseldorf, and Munich. His paintings are in many galleries, including the New Pinakothek in Munich, the National Gallery in Berlin, the Gallery in Düsseldorf and the Museum in Weimar.
Fascinated by old Dutch painting, he created intimate landscapes with picturesque architecture, drowning in greenery - these are usually calm compositions in muted colors. He was fascinated by England with its damp wharves, the tranquil canals of Holland and the vast German lowlands.
