Biography
Belarusian painter and printmaker of Jewish origin. He worked mainly in Paris, where his family emigrated around 1905 after the pogroms sweeping the Russian Empire at the time. Despite his difficult financial situation, he began studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He trained in architecture and stage design, but also practiced painting. He exhibited his paintings at the Salon des Independents and the Autumn Salon, among others. In 1935 he moved with his family to Charente-Maritime, where he set up his studio. During the occupation, he was arrested and was eventually sent to Auschwitz, where he died of typhus. Most of his legacy was destroyed during the war.
