Jan Perdzyński (Warsaw 1869 - Warsaw 1902) - painter, illustrator; graduated from high school in Warsaw, after which he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Krakow from 1888 to 1890. Returning to Warsaw, he began working with the magazine "Kłosy" and later also with "Tygodnik Ilustrowane", Wędrowiec and "Ziarn". He illustrated children's books and Arthur Oppman's (Or-Ota) poetry from the Old Town series. In 1891 he received an award from "Tygodnik Ilustrowany" for his illustration of Teofil Lenartowicz's Kalina, and in 1894 he received a medal for his watercolor From Hunting at an exhibition of modern art in Lviv. He was also awarded in a postcard competition. In 1897 he went on a study trip to Paris and Italy; the result of this trip were watercolors of Rome, Venice and Naples shown at an exhibition at TZSP and at the Krywult Salon in Warsaw.(1901). The artist painted mainly in watercolor and gouache, rarely in oil. Among his favorite subjects were hunting, battle or genre scenes. He was eager to paint horses. He also created landscapes and portraits. He exhibited in Warsaw (TZSP and Krywult Salon), Lvov, Lodz, Berlin (1895), Kiev (1900, 1901). His oeuvre is scattered; only a few works - by the young deceased artist - have found their way into museum collections (MN in Warsaw, Museum in Bialystok, Picture Gallery in Lvov).
