Biography
Jerzy Merkel studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow with J. Mehoffer (1903 - 05). After graduating, like many artists, he left the country in search of inspiration. In 1906 he lived in Vienna, and in 1909 he settled in Paris. In Vienna, he belonged to the art association "Hagenbund" (1907). In 1938, he settled in France for many years before returning to Vienna in 1972. He painted most often figural scenes and lyrical landscapes.
