"Well only when the rays of the winter sun fall on this immensity of pure whiteness. Then a white and blue symphony of tones of unparalleled purity is created. This symphony became one of Falat's most favorite painting motifs."
S. Popowski, "Juljan Fałat", [in:] "Guide to the Exhibition of the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts No. XVII", Warsaw 1926, p. 11
"In the sunlight-saturated winter landscapes he reproduces with extraordinary skill the materiality of snow - its fresh fluffiness or its weight during the thaw."
A.Król, Julian Fałat, Stalowa Wola 2010, p. 75 [cat. exhibition].

Fałat's winter landscapes were highly regarded by the public. They were rated higher by critics than the works of Norwegian artists, who were so far considered masters of this genre (T. Dudek Bujarek, Julian Fałat - życiorys pędzlem zapisany, Bielsko-Biała 2017, p. 161). Everyone in the capital wanted to have Fałat's snows. Fałat received letters urging him on the matter, which read: "Almost every buyer wants to have "Snow" and only snow, to everyone I promise and note to myself, and here the snows are not there and you can't see them, so now I am very much asking Dear Sir, something necessarily send me by mail" (Letter from J. Woloszynska to J. Falat, February 15, 1914, MBB/H-FJ/1498). The artist himself considered winter landscape a graceful subject. Fałat's sincere admiration for this time of year echoed in his correspondence to his daughter: "We have a wonderful winter at the moment. It has been snowing all night and the landscape is getting gorgeous, and you only have to wait for the first ray of sunshine to paint. (Letter from J. Fałat to his daughter, October 12, 1927, MBB/H-FJ/1350); "The whole world covered with snow is so beautiful that you shout for joy" (Letter from J. Fałat to his daughter, November 15, 1927, MBB/H-FJ/1353).
