Biography
In 1924 he began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, taking classes from the studios of Władysław Jarocki, Wojciech Weiss and Fryderyk Pautsch. After graduating from them in 1930, he went to Paris on a one-year scholarship. Upon his return, from 1932 he was a stage designer working in the theaters of Warsaw, Lodz (including "Kameralny", in the 1937/1938 season, stage design for G. Zapolska's play "Woman without a Flaw", directed by Wlad. Krasnowiecki), Krakow and Lviv, he often worked with Leon Schiller. After the outbreak of war, he was sent to the Warsaw Ghetto, from which he managed to escape. After the fall of the Warsaw Uprising, in which he took part, he was sent to Stalag XI-A Altengrabow and stayed there until the end of World War II. After returning to Poland, he took a job at the Polish Army Theater in Lodz, and from 1949 settled in Warsaw and began working with the Polish Theater. From 1947 to 1952 he was a lecturer at the State Higher School of Theater in Lodz, and from 1959 he created set designs for television. In 1973, he ended his work for the Polish Theater and focused on painting and graphics. In 1979 he was awarded the title of Distinguished Member of the Union of Polish Stage Artists.
