Stanislaw Stückgold is a Polish artist with Jewish roots who achieved international success already during his lifetime: as a representative of European Modernism, he established artistic contacts with Matisse and Rousseau (he was one of the first to recognize the potential of the French primitivist); he was associated with the group Der Blaue Reiter, and ran a private painting school in Munich. His friendship with Albert Einstein resulted in a posthumous exhibition of the artist's work at the Galerie Bernheim-Jeune in Paris, which was the physicist's tribute to Stückgold.
It was Matsse's fauvism and Rousseau's primitivism that left the greatest artistic mark on the work of Stückgold, whom art history recognizes as one of the most outstanding Polish avant-gardists of the early 20th century. The artist's art was of interest in Germany, France, Switzerland, Romania and Hungary; to this day, the artist's works appear more often at foreign auctions than Polish ones. It is worth noting the novelty of Stückgold's style, which resulted not only from his great talent and sensitivity, but also from his excellent knowledge of philosophy.
