Rybkowski studied painting under W. Łuszczkiewicz at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow, and then from 1875 to 1877 he studied in Vienna - at the Academy of Fine Arts and in the studios of L. Loeffler and H. Makart. In 1893 he settled permanently in Lviv, where he established a private school of painting for women, and also taught at the State Industrial School. He painted in oil and watercolor, mainly genre scenes - hunting, fairs and markets. He was interested in Hutsul folklore, did mural painting, and made illustrations for magazines.
