Biography
He came from a well-known family of Warsaw artists - his father and two brothers were painters. He studied initially with Wojciech Gerson at the Warsaw Drawing Class, then at the academies in St. Petersburg (until 1879) and the Munich academy (in 1880-82). Together with his brother Jan Michał, he made polychromes and paintings for the Chapel of the Virgin Mary at Jasna Gora, churches in Krasne and Przesmyki. Severe mental illness excluded him from active life - from 1885, until his death, he stayed at the Jan Bozy Institution in Warsaw. He painted portraits, genre and historical scenes, often based on literary motifs. He made copies of the works of famous masters, engaged in conservation, as well as literary works.
