Court photographer of the Austrian emperor
A number of photographic ateliers operated in Kolomyia, thanks to which thousands of photos have been preserved depicting images of the city's residents, its most important monuments and the celebrations taking place there.
Their owners included: Władysław Droździewicz - who owned the "Maryla" establishment next to the post office, Wilhelm Eibel - operating at 25 Franciszka Józefa Street, Michalina Hnatkowska and Zdzisław Bronisław Żydło at 16 Piłsudskiego Street, as well as Juliusz Dutkiewicz, Eugeniusz Jurkiewicz, Jiži Chrža (Czech by origin) and Adolf Müller.
The most famous of them, who was given the title of court photographer to the Emperor of Austria and had the right to photograph the imperial family, was Alexander Kübler (1874-1964) - of German descent. His father, Valentin, a print shop owner, came from Frankfurt am Main. Alexander became a photographer against his father's wishes and practiced his profession with great passion. He became famous in his youth for taking a picture of the image of the Virgin Mary at the Dominican monastery in Podkamień - Podolia's Czestochowa.
